The Voice of the Falcons

As many Falcons' fans have learned from attending recent men's and women's basketball games, I have become the new "Voice of the Falcons."  This honor which was bestowed upon me by both Michael Spinner and Kristen DeCarli, has allowed me to liven up home basketball contests, and show off my public address announcing skills to loyal Falcon fans.  So far this season I have managed to receive rave reviews for my "Jackie Moon" style of announcing games, and my ability to excite the crowd during big moments of the game.  I have had a wonderful time working as the in-game public address announcer and cannot wait for each and every Falcon home basketball game this season, so I can get back on the microphone, doing what I love.
In addition to my great performance on the mic, has come an even better performance by the men's and women's basketball teams to open the 2012-2013 campaign.  The men's team has gotten off to an amazing 3-0 start, that includes a huge, home, upset victory over Wesleyan University, who at the time was ranked 23rd in the nation.  The men have taken over the 23rd spot in the nation due to their hot start, as this is the second consecutive season the men are ranked in the top 25 in DIII basketball.
While the men are ranked in the top 25 the women are off to an even hotter start!  With five consecutive victories to open the season, including winning the Blue Angel Tip-Off Tournament, the women are off to their best start in program history. 
With both of our school's basketball programs having a combined 8-0 record to open the season, and my beautiful voice reverberating off the walls, of our home gymnasium, how could you not be at the next Falcon home match.  The Falcons' men's basketball team will take on GNAC foe, Lasell College in their next home game on Saturday, December 1st at 1 PM, with the women playing Bay Path College immediately after at 3 PM.  There is nothing more exciting than Falcon athletics, so be there, and look for me on the microphone!

Blue Angel Tip Off Tournament

If you have yet to hear the news, the Falcon's women's basketball team won the Blue Angel Tip Off Tournament this weekend in dominating fashion.  The four team tournament gave the Falcons a great chance to show off their new and improved squad under newly hired head coach J.R. Fredette. 
The Falcons first game took place on Saturday, as the girls easily dispatched Yeshiva University with a 102-47 win.  The dominating victory was led by Lindsey Karle and Lianna Carrero who sored 23 and 15 points respectively. 
The Semi-Final victory was just the beginning for the Falcons as they won the tournament; beating the College of New Rochelle by a score of 95-52.  Carrero led the Falcons with 27 points scored and helped the Falcons improve to an impressive 3-0 record early in the 2012-2013 campaign. 
The Falcons have compeletely dominated competition early in the season winning their first three games by 30 points or more in their first three games.  Their largest margin of victory by the Falcons this season was 55 points against Yeshiva University, an astonishing margin. 
This season is looking very promising for the Falcons' women's basketball team, so get out and support them!  Also, while your at the game, keep an ear out for the new voice of the Falcons, yours truly, Sunshine!

Change in Seasons

After an extremely successful fall sports season that saw the men's soccer team earn a GNAC title, and the women's volleyball and soccer teams earn ECAC tournament berths; the winter season is fast approaching.  Both the women's and men's basketball programs begin their seasons later this week with success on their minds. 
Thursday night at 6:00 PM the women's team, led by new head coach J.R. Fredette will take on St. Joe's Long Island here at Albertus Magnus College.  The women's team is coming off its best season in the last eight years, and will look to improve on that success with many starters returning for this year's campaign.  The Falcons lost to St. Joe's Long Island last year on the road, and will look for the support of the home crowd to push them to a season opening victory, Thursday night.
The men open up the season on the road, and despite the loss of star forward Ray Askew, the Falcons look to be an even tougher matchup for many teams than they were last season.  The men's home opener will take place on Sunday November 25th at 1:00 PM, against Weslyan Connecticut.  The men earned votes in the Division III national polls and with a few early season wins, could see themselves back in the top 25 for the second straight season.
Throughout both the men's and women's seasons, I will be working as the in-game public address announcer, calling out points, fouls and timeouts.  So get out to the games this year Falcon fans, because our school's athletic dominance will continue, as our basketball programs chase after a GNAC title.

TWO MORE WEEKS!!!

So as you all know by now, I have a broken arm.  A broken right arm is bad enough on its own, but when your a right handed pitcher, its very rough.  Earlier this week, fall practices started for the Albertus Magnus College baseball team, and I have been left with a half spectator, half assistant coach type role with the team so far.  The itch to play the game that brought me to Albertus has been very prominent while watching practices, but in order to heal properly I must continue playing the waiting game. 
The good news is that in just two short weeks, my arm will be completely healed and ready for action, just in time for the final weeks of fall practices.  So as I continue healing, I continue counting the days till this dreaded cast is off my arm for good, and I can go back to playing the sport I love.  Many athletes that have been injured before, can understand the frustrating process I am going through.  Watching your teammates practice and play while you can not is one of the worst feelings in the world of sports.  Derek Jeter, shortstop for the New York Yankees, referred to the Disabled List, (a list that injured athletes are placed on in sports to show they cannot compete), as "athlete purgatory," a description that describes my situation perfectly.
While watching practices and working with my fellow pitchers on perfecting their craft, I have seen some great promise for the upcoming season.  Our baseball team has returned its entire pitching staff from last season, while adding some new recruits to the mix.  The Falcons' baseball squad has an exciting season in store for all their fans this year, and they may possibly grab themselves a GNAC title!
